Weight Loss Programs

Healthiest Loser originated several years ago at the request of employees who wanted a low-cost alternative to the system’s Weight Watchers program. Open to the idea, staff set out to create an independent program that BCPS offices, departments and schools could adapt according to their unique needs and timelines. Since then, team BCPS has shed more than 10,000 pounds thanks to the program, which uses regular weigh-ins in a friendly but competitive team environment to drive results.

Based on recommendations from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the Employee Wellness program has put together a weight loss program to help staff in their efforts to lose weight and keep it off.  We have broken successful weight loss down into four basic categories.

  • Journaling
  • Calorie Reduction
  • Healthy Eating
  • Physical Activity

Healthy Wage is a nationally recognized program was developed in collaboration with the Mayo Clinic and the University of Pennsylvania. The program, held annually in January, provides employees the chance to win $10,000 for losing weight by teaming up in small groups.  Employees can sign up on their own or with coworkers, friends, and family, to compete to lose weight.  Employees commit to the challenge with a total non-refundable fee of seventy dollars ($70).  The team that loses the greatest percent of weight (healthy restrictions are in place) in the challenge wins $10,000, 2nd place wins $5,000, and 3rd place wins $3,000.
