Office of Employee Absence and Risk Management

Purpose

The Office of Employee Absence and Risk Management implements strategies to protect Baltimore County Public Schools students, personnel, property, and fiscal resources, through the administration  of the absence management programs, workers compensation program, and the management of liability, casualty, and unemployment insurance programs. The office also consults with school administrators and department heads on risk assessments and the identification of strategies to address potential risks that impact or interfere with the mission and goals of Baltimore County Public Schools.

The Office:

Implements the Integrated Disability Management (IDM) Program for personal illness absences of 10 or more consecutive days.

Coordinates and assists with implementation of the Employee Attendance Monitoring Program (EAMP) for personal and family intermittent absences.

Reviews and approves sick leave bank use.

Implements BCPS Drug-Free Workplace policy.

Facilities the workers compensation program in collaboration with the third party claim administrator.

Coordinates the unemployment insurance program in collaboration with the third party administrator.

Coordinates the implementation of the SafeSchools online training programs.

Consults with school administrators and office heads on risk identification, assessments, and risk reduction strategies.

Reviews school-sponsored activities upon request and develops and maintains a list of prohibited high-risk activities.

Collaborates with BCPS insurer for the liability, casualty, and property insurance program.

Additionally, supports the availability of the student accident insurance program.
