OEARM provides guidance and support to supervisors and employees to manage workplace absenteeism. We understand that at some point in time almost all BCPS team members will have a need to care for themselves or others due to illness. The absence management team works to balance the needs of the employee with the needs of the workplace. Often times, employees experiencing illness are facing very challenging times. Through our absence management programs, we help employees understand the resources available to them to obtain an approved leave, maintain their pay (if their is time available), and transition to return to work. Absenteeism also causes stress for supervisors, who are tasked with finding appropriate coverage to meet the needs of the workplace. OEARM provides guidance to supervisors to ensure appropriate absence coding, determine whether a position may be released, and provide coaching on absence management.

OEARM administers two absence management programs: IDM (for consecutive absences) and EAMP (for intermittent absences). Click on the tabs in the left column to learn more about each program.
